The Gospel

So, my assumption in writing this blog is that most of my readers are people who already know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour. But what about the other few who don’t that may come across my site? This page is an explanation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through various verses outlined in the new testament.

If you have never heard the good news of Jesus, I invite you to explore with me the implications of the most important decision you will ever make in your life. It is my prayer that if you haven’t made the decision to follow Him by giving your life to Him solely, that you will once reading this. I’d love to hear if you do accept Him as your personal Lord and Saviour.

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23

“for all have sinned…” This verse states that no one is exempt from the sinner’s status. We were all born into the nature of sin. Sin entered into humanity through Adam and Eve, and its curse has infected every person that has ever been born. Although it is not our fault, it is nonetheless our reality. “…and fall short of the glory of God…” Everyone is guilty before God. God is perfect in everything.  There is nothing and never will be anything that we can do to reconcile ourselves to His perfection.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

“for the wages of sin is death…” The consequence of sin is death. And since we were all born into sin, our end is guaranteed death. This death that we all face is the death of our bodies. Then the eternity that we will face as a result of the sin we lived with is an eternity separate from all that is good, or God. “…but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” There is good news! Jesus Christ is our gift, our reconciliation to the Holy God who created us all. We are unable to save ourselves from the wage of sin, but God made a way for us through the death of His Son.

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6

The only way to Heaven is through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. The sacrificial system of the Old Testament times was to present an animal that was spotless in the place of the one who was seeking atonement. The problem with the OT system was that it was a temporary atonement that had to be repeated. That ended when the perfect Son of God sacrificed Himself on the cross to atone for all of humanity. He was the spotless, or sinless, lamb led to the slaughter for our sins. We are now reconciled to God on the basis of His death on the cross. There is no other way to get into Heaven. There is no other way to be reconciled to God.

“if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” Romans 10:9-11

The path to salvation is confessing with your mouth that Jesus is Lord. That He died on the cross and that His death is the absolute propitiation for our sins. And that God raised Him from the dead on the third day signifying His conquering of death once and for all. But confession isn’t enough, you have to believe in your heart that these things are the truth.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God…” Ephesians 2:8

Grace is unmerited favor. God did this awesome thing when He stooped to save each of us by sacrificing His only Son for our sins. It is His work only that saves us from an eternal hell. There is nothing we can do to accomplish this, but we have to have faith that what He says is true.

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” Revelation 3:20

This is a personal invitation from Jesus Himself for each of us to accept His free gift of salvation. It is open to any and everyone who will take it. Don’t live another moment apart from the One who can satisfy your soul. If you are ready to accept His invitation, say this prayer with me…

Father God, I’m tired of living in absolute opposition to you because of my sin. I recognize I am powerless to overcome the grasp of sin apart from You. Forgive me for my sins. I believe that Your Son Jesus Christ came and died on the cross for my sins and rose again. I believe that He is Lord and I accept His free gift of salvation. Come into my heart today and free me from the wages of sin. Change me, mold me into the image of your Son day-by-day. I ask all of these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you said the prayer I ask that you let me know. The next step is going to be growing in your faith by studying God’s Word and building your relationship with Him through prayer.
